Recently I visited the Village Hotel in Cosham. This hotel is newly opened and offers a somewhat different style of room in a different area of the city to the usual hotels.
I visited to see if I could negotiate a deal for a group visiting from Caen in June and I am pleased to say that we have secured some rooms with an extra special deal at this hotel for a group visiting the Portsmouth area on June 4th 2018. I did promise I would write a review of my findings and link to the hotel from our home page and news blog hence this post.
I hope that we will also be able to have more visitors from both Caen and Duisburg along with Portsmouth's sister cities around the world in the future and have established a link between this hotel and the City Council to negotiate guests from our international link cities possibly staying at this hotel at other times in the future.
Of course many other hotels are available in the city, but the majority of those approached deal with group bookings via a central call centre and not in house as this one did for me on this occasion.
Many of you may have driven past the Village Hotel in Cosham, right next to the Porsche dealership and within sight of Lakeside 1000, still known to many as IBM...
Currently there are 29 Village Hotels in the UK, most are in the Midlands and the North.
The hotel is modern and has a feeling of space inside, even though it does not seem that large when passing on the road.
There are five storeys to this hotel with rooms for guests on floors 2, 3, 4 and 5. The most 'executive' style rooms are on the 5th floor of course.
On the Ground Floor there is the modern and compact reception cube, along with a bar and grill/café and a Starbucks Coffee Shop. Not forgetting the sauna, swimming pool and Jacuzzi facilities.
On the First Floor there is the gym , studio and 'club', with cycling machines in a cinema, showing you motivational films to get you cycling well.
Guests can access these facilities during their stay and access is usually included in 'club' room prices. 'Club' room tariffs also give access to the business room with its unlimited supply of tea and coffee along with snacks such as fruit to keep you going during those business working sessions Mondays to Fridays form 7 am to 7 pm.
Two main lifts will whisk you up swiftly to your rooms and you'll have electronic keys to gain access to them.
The bar grill offers items such as burgers and wraps for lunch and a full dinner menu. There are currently some offers such as a fixed price dinner menu with 3 courses for £20.
In the standard rooms the beds tend to be double beds with Sealy mattresses. Also provided among other things are tea and coffee making facilities, an iron and ironing board, Wifi access in the room, USB charging points and a 50" TV set. Towels and various toiletries are also provided in the en-suite shower room.
In the 'Club' rooms the extras are a Tassimo machine and Amazon's Alexa personal assistant. The TV is a 55" version with access to Sky Sports and Movie packages along with a Google Chromecast device for streaming your own content from your devices. The bed is topped with a mattress topper and the bed linen is made from Egyptian high thread count cotton combined with feather down duvets. The shower room is equipped with a rainfall shower and Spa Toiletries.
If you choose to have breakfast added to your stay in your room, you will have a wide choice: from a full English buffet style breakfast to pastries, breads and muffins.
