Today I had the honour of attending the official launch of the Franco-British Museum of Ousitreham in the Royal Naval Museum in Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard.
The Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Cllr Ken Ellcombe and the Mayor of Ouistreham, Roman Bail were both present.
A presentation of the entire project was given by Romain Bail, the Royal Naval Museum (who are working in close partnership with the new museum) and one of the theme of architects behind the building's concept.
This museum will be built right on the beach at Ouistreham, where the Normandy landings on Sword Beach took place, but this museum is not just about World War Two and D-Day. This museum will cover the thousand years of history between France and Britain since the arrival of the Normans in England in 1066.
It is due to be completed and opened on June 6th 2019, which will be exactly 75 years since D-Day took place.
