For the first time this year, we invited the Portsmouth Ambassadors to be on our stand at the Kite Festival, which we did for the Lord Mayor's Rural and Seaside Show in early May.
I would like to thank the Portsmouth Ambassadors who came along and the members of the Twinning Committee who supported me, plus all those of you who came along to visit our stand.
Sunday began with very high winds, blowing directly into our gazebo, which meant that nothing much could be laid out for visitors, then the rain came in horizontally. We saw no-one for over an hour at our stand, those who were on the common were pretty much just racing away or walking their dogs, to stop the rain coming in in torrents we had to close the front of the gazebo.
So we closed our stand at 12pm.
Better luck with the weather for next year.
We ran a guess the number of shells competition for a gift bag of Portsmouth Tea and a tombola style card game with a few star prizes.
Jean Barrow Vice Chair of the committee with responsibility for Caen writes about the competition to win the tea:
"We had to abandon the competition (and the stall!) on Sunday because of the weather but that on Saturday we had guesses ranging from 80 to 280 shells. There were in fact 181 shells and the winner came within 19 of that number. The winner has been contacted and will be receiving the prize of Portsmouth tea shortly. Congratulations to the winner and thank you to those who took part and helped raise funds for continuing twinning activities." Below are some images taken by Jean and Matt Farmer (Portsmouth Ambassadors) of the weekend, including one of the winners of a tombola star prize.
