On Tuesday May 16th, I attended the Mayor Making Ceremony, as did Jean Barrow and Kevan Chippindall-Higgin. This ceremony is actually the Annual Meeting of the City Council at the Guildhall.
I was assigned a seat with the representative of Caen City Council M. Morgan Taillebosq, the Mayor of Duisburg (our twin city in Germany) and another member of his team, a representative from one of the American Portsmouth's (Portsmouth Rhode Island) and the chair of the Haifa-Portsmouth Friendship Committee.
It was such an interesting ceremony. We heard about the incoming Lord Mayor's chosen charities. The Elizabeth Foundation, Veterans Outreach Support and Headway Portsmouth and South East Hampshire. All Portsmouth based charities.
Cllr Ken Ellcombe (Lord Mayor of Portsmouth) and the Lady Mayoress Mrs Jo Ellcombe, will be attending the D-day memorial celebrations in Caen on June 6th.
The gallery is of some photographs taken by M. Morgan Taillebosq of Caen City Council on the day, to give you a flavour of the event.
In the second image we can see Cllr Lynda Symes, Cllr Donna Jones, Lord Mayor Ken Ellcombe and Cllr Lee Mason.
In the third image (which I took myself) is Andrew Kelly from the Mayor's Office in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, Cllr Lee Mason (Deputy Lord Mayor of Portsmouth), M. Morgan Taillebosq from Caen Mayor's Office and Herr Sören Link Oberbürgermeister (Mayor) of Duisburg, Germany at the lunch for twinning partners.
In the final image are the same people from twinning with Lord Mayor Ken Ellcombe on the steps of Portsmouth's Guildhall.
