Paid internship available in Caen for August 2020, apply now

An easy to remember link to this page is: tinyurl.com/caenstage20

A message from Nicolas Boblin at the City of Caen International Relations Department currently working form home:

"Hello Andrew. I just wanted to tell you that we have decided to cancel all our internship this summer due to the COVID crisis. Unfortunately, we won't recruit anyone and we won't be able to welcome someone from Portsmouth."

Therefore, the Intern opportunity in Caen, France for 1 month in August 2020 is now cancelled.

We have been asked to help in seeking a suitable young person (aged 18 to 25) for an opportunity to work in Portsmouth's Twinned City of Caen this summer.

Generally this post is to give guided tours in English to tourists at the Musée de Normandie in Château Ducal (William the Conqueror's Castle) in Caen city centre (pictured below) Download here the details, which give an explanation, in French, of what is involved and required by Caen.

Last year the Portsmouth Intern went to Caen for two months as it was D-Day 75 year.

Her experiences can be read about here.

We received an intern from Caen who worked at the Spinnaker Tower. Her experience is here.

The University of Portsmouth student we sent in summer 2018 has provided us with a detailed report of her experiences on this blog post and the one we received from Caen who worked in Portsmouth at the Spinnaker Tower also tells you all about her experiences on that same post, but in French, of course.

The intern we sent the year before (2017) tells you about his experiences here. The Caen City Council internship would be for the period 1st to 31st August, at a salary of 1100 euros, with accommodation provided in a host family.

Brittany Ferries normally contribute towards the travel costs. You will confirm dates with Caen City Council.

(Any changes to arrangements due to circumstances beyond our control after March 29th or any future dates might mean changes to any arrangements are necessary)

If you know of any suitable candidates (they must have native standard English as mother tongue) with more than a passing ability to communicate in French, both orally and written, could you please ask them to email us their CV and covering letter (both to be written in French) by Thursday May 7th or if at all possible before this date.

We will, (all being well), arrange for interviews to be held in late May or early June and would expect you to make arrangements to be able to attend this interview so if you are aware of times and dates you know are impossible it would be good to inform us of this in your application.

Kind regards,

Andrew Starr (Chair of the Caen-Portsmouth Friendship Committee)
