The Caen-Portsmouth Friendship Committee held its first ever pub quiz fundraiser night at The White Horse Pub in Southsea, on Tuesday, January 24th, 2017.
As the first event of the year organised to raise funds to support our current and future projects, we are grateful to our current chairman Robin Sparshatt, whose idea it was to organise and hold a pub quiz.
Committee member Jean Barrow organised the event at the White Horse Pub, whose generosity allowed us their marvellous conservatory as our venue.
The quiz was certainly a challenge to many attendees, some more than others. Seasoned pub quiz attendees did well and the winners were able to share among them a wonderful hamper of goods from France.
The hamper, donated by committee secretary Terry Hall, was filled with donations by committee members.
A raffle also took place, with another wide range of prizes donated by various committee members, along with the star prize of a return trip for a car and up to four people donated by our partners at Brittany Ferries.
Overall, through sales of tickets and raffle prizes, we raised £557 towards funding our upcoming projects.
Our thanks go out to all those who participated and helped us in making this event a most enjoyable event, including Portsmouth City Councillors and members of the French and various language social groups in the city.
We hope to hold a further social event in February with our partners in Southsea’s Kings Theatre. We are also planning a trip to visit our twin city of Caen and nearby Bayeux in March.
Further details of our trip can be found here on our website on this very news blog and on our Facebook page. We also have a Twitter Feed. We use these to post updates about all our activities and ways in which you can join in with us.
